Le décès de Camila Oliveira dans la nuit du 30 juin au 1er juillet 2025 suite à une course poursuite provoquée par un policier récidiviste - ayant déjà participé à la mort de Mike Ben Peter - nous montre que retirer ces agents du terrain est une mesure urgente pour mettre à l’abri la population dans son ensemble.
Le collectif demande au Ministère public qu’il garantisse que la saisie l’ensemble des supports relatifs à l’intervention policière ayant précédé la mort de Michael Kenechukwu Ekemezie (caméras de surveillance publique, caméras du poste de police, bodycams des agents impliqués, discussions radio, etc.) a bien été effectuée.
Dans le cas de la mort de Mike Ben Peter, les avocats de toutes les parties s’étaient accordés pour dire que l’enquête avait été bâclée par le Ministère public. Le transfert de l’enquête au Ministère public d’un autre canton est indispensable, celui du canton de Vaud n’ayant jusqu’à présent jamais été en mesure de mener des enquêtes sérieuses,
lorsqu’elles concernent des policiers.
Dans ce contexte, il est préoccupant que les agents impliqués dans la mort de Michael n’aient toujours pas été interrogés, alors que l’on craint une forte collusion et un manque de transparence au sein de l’exécutif.
Rappelons que si depuis 2016, dans le canton de Vaud, cinq hommes noirs ont été tués par la police, les familles des défunts n’ont à ce jour obtenu ni vérité ni justice, aucun agent n’ayant jamais été sanctionné.

Nearly two months ago, on May 25, 2025, Michael Kenechukwu Ekemezie died following a violent police intervention on Avenue Sainte-Luce in Lausanne. To this day, the family’s lawyer, Maître Simon Ntah, still does not have full access to the case file. The “Justice for Michael” collective is therefore calling for a gathering on Tuesday, July 22 at 10:00 AM, in front of the Vaud Public Prosecutor’s Office, located at Avenue de Longemalle 1 in Renens.
On this occasion, the collective will reiterate its demand for the immediate suspension of the officers involved in Michael Kenechukwu Ekemezie’s death. According to the collective, officers under investigation should at the very least be transferred to duties where they have no contact with the public.
The recent death of Camila Oliveira during the night of June 30 to July 1, 2025—following a car chase initiated by a repeat-offender police officer who had already been involved in the death of Mike Ben Peter—demonstrates the urgent need to remove such officers from active duty to protect the population as a whole.
The collective calls on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to guarantee that all materials related to the police intervention that preceded the death of Michael Kenechukwu Ekemezie have been properly seized. This includes public surveillance footage, police station cameras, the bodycams of the officers involved, radio communications, and any other relevant data.
In the case of Mike Ben Peter’s death, lawyers from all sides agreed that the investigation had been mishandled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Transferring the current investigation to a prosecutor from another canton is essential, as the Vaud office has so far never been able to conduct serious investigations when police officers are involved.
In this context, it is alarming that the officers implicated in Michael’s death have still not been questioned, especially given serious concerns about collusion and lack of transparency within the authorities.
Let us remember that since 2016, four Black men have died at the hands of police in the canton of Vaud. To this day, none of the families have received either truth or justice—not a single officer has ever been held accountable.
