Bern, Switzerland
On Saturday, pro-Palestine collectives from across Switzerland mobilized for a national demonstration against the complicity of Switzerland in the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people in Gaza.
Marching through the city, the protestors advanced toward the Israeli embassy despite violent police repression, and the use of water canons, tear gas, and rubber bullets. Undeterred, the crowd regrouped at the Bundesplatz, thousands strong, demanding accountability from politicians and institutions enabling and abetting the ongoing destruction of Palestinian life.
Moving to Bahnhofplatz, the crowd protested UBS and AXA for their profiteering from Zionist military industries. At the Swiss subsidiary of Elbit Systems— one of Israel’s largest arms manufacturers-the march was met with another wave of police repression. We held the streets and pressed on, determined to reach the U.S. embassy, the primary enabler of this genocide. Just one street away, the police forced the protestors to turn back.
For four hours, the capital city of Switzerland was shut down.
The city of Bern lays bare the staggering concentration of institutions enabling the genocide of Palestinians. On Saturday, the protestors rose to confront the architecture of complicity.
